The Origins Centre

We are a respite, retreat and activity centre governed by Origins Centre in Western Australia, a charitable not-for-profit NGO founded in 1983.

Situated on 10 acres, the Centre is surrounded by beautiful gardens, trees and native bush and is on the Bibbulmun Track and Balingup Brook. Next door on the west side is Coorain on 7 acres. Both Origins and Coorain are managed by the same committee of management. The properties are governed as one.

Fifteen of our seventeen acres are currently under landcare, becoming a .beautiful native parkland.

We welcome individuals and groups for respite, retreat and courses or events.People can come as guests for up to two weeks.Helpers can apply to stay longer. There are no charges. People make contributions financially or in kind as they can. The centre is particularly attractive to those who are interested in mindfulness and retreat and Landcare.

WEDNESDAY OPEN DAYS are always special. Bring something for the table and join us for lunch. Wednesdays are perfect for a friendly visit to see the place for yourself. Come from 10a.m. til 2pm. Potluck lunch is at 12:30.

Yoga, health, meditation, carers and caring, bush walkers, activists, environmentalists, study,  art and music are all activities that go on at OC. Families can take an affordable holiday in a beautiful, stimulating environment. The centre is very chil friendly and lots come to visit. We have a weekly Kindy throughout the year.

The 'Rotunda', a beautiful 8-sided building, has good acoustics for music rehearsals and recitals.

Resident helpers contribute to the welfare of the centre. Origins is administered and supported through Coorain.

We try to maintain an ethos that's friendly, helpful and cooperative.

Our amenities, accommodation and facilities are available on a donation basis. Everyone contributes a bit by looking after their room and the facilities.Guests give a short time; helpers work for two- three hours per day. Longterm helpers have more responsibility.

Origins Centre also governs Coorain, a special interest Buddhist residence located on the adjoining property.Coorain provides the longterm continuity in both management and teaching.Coorain practicioners instruct the mindfulness sessions, weekends and retreats as well as offering access to the dharma teachings.

Origins Centre is a drug and alcohol free zone.
